Investigate and classify the animals and habitats you find in the grounds of Brackenhurst Hall. You will discuss food chains, hunt for minibeasts and enjoy discovering Millennium Wood.
Itinerary
On arrival one of our tutors will welcome your group to the Centre and go through the schedule for the day, learning objectives and health and safety issues.
Session A: Usually led by centre teacher.
- In the classroom there will be a demonstration on how to use the collection equipment and identification charts.
- The class will discuss food-chains and each animal’s interdependence on one another.
- Walk to Millennium Wood, stopping on the way to investigate the habitat around the log circle and pond areas.
- Look for, collect and classify the different animals found in the Millennium Wood.
- Gather in the log circle and discuss findings.
- Return minibeasts to their habitats.
- Walk back to the classroom.

- Use keys to identify animals encountered in their natural habitat and how they have adapted.
- Use different sampling techniques to collect mini-beasts
- Understand how life cycles are linked to the seasons
- Understand food chains based on the living things discovered
